A girl can dream, no?

inspiration

I've been feeling rather uninspired and uninterested as of late. This may or may not (though I'm leaning towards 'may') have something to do with the fact that I have literally done nothing worth noting in a very long time. The job search which I had embarked upon weeks ago yielded some interesting results. Lessons that I learned: a) one should probably begin a job search before the summer, not during (note to self!), b) one minute you may have a job offer, and the next -- poof! -- it can just as quickly disappear (THANKS FOR NOTHING) and c) reality TV is getting reaaaaaally old (read: Bravo, no more Real Housewives, please?). I think it's high time I had a change of scenery. And hobbies. And lifestyle.

I NEED SOME INSPIRATION.

rain, rain go away

I've found that my mood on any given day is inexplicably and inextricably linked with the weather. Take today, for example. In an effort to combat the inevitable gloom and doom brought on by today's unrelenting showers, I decided to bake cookies. Choc-oat-chip cookies, to be exact! Bored with the usual chocolate chip cookie recipe, I opted to add chopped walnuts and rolled oats to my batch. Et voila! Choc-oat-chip cookies. They tasted a lot like if you took a chocolate chip Chewy bar and popped it in the microwave for a bit. I know, amazing. Needless to say, the baking definitely helped avoid an onset of the rainy day blues, if only for a little while. But I really don't know if I have enough baking supplies to last into next week, which YET AGAIN is full of rainy days. I'm going to need to be creative and come up with more activities to whittle the time away, because this whole baking jig is probably not too conducive to my health. And by "not too," I mean "not at all."

21 and not a day wiser

Here are a few more pictures from my previous birthday festivities: dinner at Cafe Cortadito, a day trip to Briermere Farm (aka PIE MECCA), and a delicious dinner from the grill along with the most decadent chocolate cake I've ingested in, perhaps, years. Unfortunately, I don't have any pie or grilled dinner pictures. Damnit. Dunno if you knew this, but the pies from Briermere have been voted as perhaps the best pies in New York. I kid you not! Go Google it. And yes, I did voluntarily choose to take a trip all the way out east for pie on my birthday. 21...older, but definitely not wiser.

I scored the most PERFECT little romper at a sample sale I happened upon in Chelsea Market the other day. The label is Josh Brody, who I've never heard of, but really, who cares? It's in the most brilliant shade of turquoise and only for a mere fraction of the original price. I'm in love with it already, and I've worn it practically everyday. Even to the supermarket. Where I got funny looks. But c'est la vie! With wedges, gold bangles and mussed hair, it's definitely going to be my favorite garment of Summer '09. All I need now is a cup of gelato and I'll be set for the summer.

On wet days like this, when you know beyond any doubt that it will rain and continue to rain for the next bajillion hours, it's nice to have a little color to warm you up. Today I found these amazing illustrations by an artist named Zhou Fan that did just the trick.

So psychedelically awesome, right? I like the little Chinese nuances, like the goldfishes with the bulging eyes tucked into each picture, and the girl wearing the qi pao in the first one. It's really a wonder how much things have changed in China in recent decades. I realize that in comparison to Western countries, the amount of artistic freedom and expression available in the country is next to nothing, but it's still nice to see that we're moving forward, albeit slowly.

So. I'm 21 now!

Here's a list of a few things I've learned after having been alive for twenty-one years:

1. You're never too old for board games.

2. Even during the most bleak and impossible times, you can always find love.

3. I clearly have an obsession with food.
(Don't worry, I'm currently seeing a therapist about it)

4. Family is everything. It's the only thing.

5. There are some things you know you'll never regret.

6. Ben and Jerry's will give you a complimentary ice cream cone on the day of your birth!

7. There will always be teenage heartthrobs. Even when you're 37, fat and tired.
